Human engagement in action

We know that scientists are deeply passionate about their work. But, sometimes they are so entrenched in the science that they lose touch with the people their discoveries will ultimately help.

Our work with Actelion included a series of internal stakeholder engagement projects to help teams build greater empathy with people who live with serious medical conditions like pulmonary arterial hypertension. It’s a classic example of the effectiveness of our Being the Other techniques.

So we made films, designed books, staged an exhibition, created 3D floor paintings and even built kitchens and bedrooms on site which had been modified to simulate life with this debilitating condition. Together, these multi-touchpoint engagements helped the teams to truly understand the pressures and fears of life with PAH. More importantly, they helped people to see the real difference that their work will make to patients’ lives.
